The Trump administration won a legal victory on Monday after a federal judge authorized the Ministry of Justice (DOJ) to cancel nearly $ 800 million in grants for programs supporting the reduction of violence and victims of crimes.

The American district judge Amit Mehta in Washington denied a preliminary injunction that five organizations asked for the cancellation of the DOJ of more than 360 subsidies and granted a request to rejection of the case.

Metha described the actions of the DoJ as “shameful” in his decision, although he finally declared that the Court lacked competence and that the organizations had not exercised violation or constitutional protection.

“The cancellation of the defendants of these prices is shameful. It is likely to harm communities and individuals vulnerable to crime and violence,” wrote Mehta. “But dissatisfaction and sympathy are not enough in a court.”

The DoJ’s programs office canceled more than $ 800 million in subsidies in April as part of what it called a change in priority to include more direct support for certain laws for applying the law, fighting violent crimes and supporting American traffic and sexual victims.

The Democracy Forward Foundation and the law firm Perry filed the trial, arguing that the subsistence layoffs did not allow regular procedure, lacked sufficient clarity and violated the constitutional clause of separation of the powers which gives the powers of the Congress.

The loss of federal money has sparked layoffs, programs and a loss of community partnerships, according to many organizations that have canceled the subsidies.

The Ministry of Justice has argued in a court to deposit that there was “no legal basis for the court to order the DOJ to restore grants at the end legally and to continue to pay for programs that executive agencies consider to be incompatible with the interests of the United States”.

Noting that he intended to redirect the subsidy funds, he described the trial as “factory contract dispute” and said that it belonged to a different court.
