Politicians call for prayer because devastating floods have an impact on center of Texas

Gov. Greg AbbottR-Texas, declared on Sunday July 6, a “day of prayer” while Texas is struggling with the devastating floods which left at least 91 dead.
“I urge the Texans of all confessions and religious traditions and horizons to offer prayers that day for the healing of individuals, the security of our first stakeholders and public security officers, the reconstruction of communities and the restoration of the region struck by this catastrophe,” said Abbott said in a proclamation.
And on the tacos breakfast in Kerrville Sunday morning, representative Chip Roy, R-Texas, published a video of a restaurant broadcasting a first Baptist service. “Only in Texas … Great is your loyalty, indeed”, ” Roy said.
“Prayer works”, Abbott said Sunday morning.

And in the political alley, a former member of the Texas Congress and presidential candidate in 2020, Democrat Beto O’Rourke, encouraged prayer and donations for those affected by floods.

“Please pray with me while more than 500 stakeholders continue their search for those who still lacked. Pray that we find survivors,” said representative Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas by encouraging Texans to join the day of prayer.
Texas is one of the most religious states in the United States, especially in the South, according to the Pew Research Center Religious landscape study published in 2024. The same study revealed that 67% of Texans are Christians.
“Please pray now for everyone in the country of the hills, in particular the Mystic Camp”, Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas., said Friday.

Camp Mystic is a private Christian summer camp for girls. Monday afternoon, at least 27 young girls who stayed at the Mystic camp were confirmed dead. There were 750 participants when the water wall hit the camp.
Like many in Texas, Camp Mystic turned to prayer during the tumultuous period of the young community.
“Camp Mystic is in mourning of the loss of 27 campers and advisers after the catastrophic floods on the Guadalupe river. Our hearts are broken alongside our families who endure this unimaginable tragedy. We are constantly praying for them,” according to a statement on the camp website.

Texas Lieutenant-Governor Dan Patrick told Fox News Channel that at Camp Mystic, “Water was at the door. The camp advisor had taken a rock and broke the window. They climbed through the window on foot and nothing other than a night dress, in water-coup.”
“Please continue to pray for families affected by this tragedy,” Patrick told Texans.

And the Attorney General Ken Paxton said: “Texans pray for these families. God is with them during this period of unimaginable pain and suffering.”
