President Donald Trump criticized the former first friend Elon Musk for launching a third political party, saying that these parties had “never worked” while calling the “ridiculous” move.

Trump spoke with journalists before climbing the Air Force 1 in Bedminster, New Jersey, when he was asked about the Musk movement to start a third party.

“I think it’s ridiculous to start a third,” said Trump from the Tarmac. “We have a huge success with the Republican Party. Democrats have lost their way, but it has always been a system with two parties, and I think that the start of a third party simply adds to the confusion.

“It really seems to have been developed for two parts,” continued the president. “Third parties have never worked. So he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous.”

Musk announced the launch of a new political party entitled “America Party” on its social media platform X on Saturday.

The entrepreneur described the training of the direct response party to a corrupt political establishment which no longer represents the American people.

The announcement followed a viral survey of July 4 on X, where Musk asked if the voters wanted the independence of what he called the “system to two parties (some would say Unitarty)”.

Over 1.2 million votes were expressed, 65.4% saying “yes”.

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you have it,” Musk said on Saturday. “When it comes to going bankrupt our country with waste and transplants, we live in a single party system, not a democracy. Today, the American party is formed to make your freedom.”

The move came just after Trump signed the “big and beautiful bill” on Friday at the White House.

The radical legislation of 3.3 billions of dollars includes tax reductions, infrastructure expenditure and recovery measures and has aroused criticism of tax conservatives and libertarians. Although Musk has not referred the bill directly in its American party posts, the calendar suggests a growing friction between the billionaire and the president. Musk previously warned that the uncontrolled expenses of both parties threaten the long -term health of the economy.

The new party, according to Musk’s publications, will target some key seats in the congress. The objective is to create a swing block powerful enough to maintain the balance of powers and to block what Musk considers as the worst excesses of Republicans and Democrats.

Third parties have traditionally had trouble gaining ground in American politics because the system is built for two dominant parties. With the electoral college, winning elections and strict access laws to the ballot, foreigners cannot compete significantly. Even when a third party candidate takes fire, he rarely lasts beyond a single electoral cycle.

One of the greatest third efforts in recent history was Ross Perot’s race in 1992.
He obtained almost 19% of the popular vote as an independence, but did not win a single vote in the electoral college. It was the closest that a third -party candidate arrived at the White House after the famous Bulled Moose party of Teddy Roosevelt president in 1912 against his online protégé, William Howard Taft.

Others, like Ralph Nader, tried with the Green Party, and Gary Johnson with the Libertarian Party, but no third -party candidate almost won the presidency.
