Migrant shelters close at the national level while the American border crossings fall

In the United States, migrant shelters close in large numbers because the border crisis has decreased considerably.
In January, two shelters closed in the county of Pima, Arizona, according to the Arizona Daily Star. In San Diego, the Jewish family service closed its refuge in February, specifically citing policy changes such as the CBP One application which moves away in the context of its closure.

On the east coast, New York has closed 63 migrant shelters this year, according to Pix11And the Massachusetts fell to four shelters over 120 in 2024, according to NBC 10 Boston. The point of sale reported that 24 of the Massachusetts shelters closed their doors this week.

“The American border patrol has the full capacity to manage the detention of foreigners apprehended in the permanent installations of the USBP. The workforce and the other resources dedicated to temporary treatment facilities will be redirected to other priorities and will accelerate CBP progress in operational control of the southwest border,” added the spokesperson.

In Mexico, there was also a reported drop in people looking to come illegally in the United States. The latest border numbers revealed that the figures remain significantly lower than they were compared to the Biden administration, because there were only 6,070 apprehensions of the southern borders in June by Border Patrol, and there was no outings in May or June.
