The host of MSNBC, Reverend Al Sharpton, called Andrew Cuomo to abandon the New York town hall race, urging the former governor to think about what would be in the best interest of New York residents.

“I think that Andrew Cuomo should look at what is best for the city and leave them a head-to-face race,” said Sharpton during MSNBC “Morning Joe” on Wednesday.

Sharpton, adding that he had previously contacted the Cuomo camp to encourage the former governor to abandon, said Cuomo removing his name from the New York town hall ballot this fall would also be in “the best interest” of the heritage of the 56th governor of New York.

In response to a question about Sharpton’s comments, a spokesperson for Cuomo’s campaign told Fox News Digital in an email that “everyone was entitled to their own political opinion”.

The New York City Elections Council published the official results of three voting cycles classified by the primary mayor last week, and Mamdani took the majority in the third round, with 56% of the votes.
