The president of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Brendan Carr, delivered his first major speech in his new role with the Trump administration, announcing six priorities on which he plans to concentrate during his mandate, in particular by pushing the United States to dominate “the space economy”.
“Continue to move vertically from the ground to the waves. Then, it’s space,” said Carr during a speech in southern Dakota on Wednesday afternoon. “The agenda for the construction of America will expand the American space economy. The final border shelters an emerging constellation of satellites which have become an essential part of the American economic and geopolitical strategy. So I want to see American companies dominate in orbit.
“Our efforts on this front will be motivated by some key guiding principles: speed, simplicity, security and abundance of the satellite spectrum,” continued Carr.
Carr has been a FCC commissioner since 2017, before Trump is hitting him to serve as president of the agency for the inauguration of Trump in January. Carr went to Sioux Falls on Wednesday, Southern Dakota, to deliver his speech to the headquarters of a telecommunications infrastructure construction company called Vikor.

The speech was nicknamed the “build America Agenda” and described six priorities that the Federal Communications Commission would attack Carr’s management.
Regarding the domination of the space economy, Carr said that the FCC already made progress.
The FCC “erases the arrears of applications for satellite systems,” he said. “And this type of acceleration is certainly necessary. In fact, if you look back in the past two years, he has actually taken more time for American innovators and entrepreneurs to build and launch satellite constellations, that it would take federal agencies in Washington to process the documents necessary to approve these launches. But it ends here.”

Carr pointed out that the other five priorities include: the release of high-speed infrastructure versions, the restoration of American leadership in wireless, the reduction of administrative formalities and the modernization of FCC operations, the progress of national security and public security and the strengthening of American workforce.
The FCC chief noted that the FCC always has rules on books related to the use of telegraphs and “rabbit broadcasting television receivers” and that its leadership will erase the agency of the outdated advice and will focus on the future.

“The FCC currently has rules on books regulating telegraph, Rabbit EAR broadcasting television receivers and telephone boxes,” he said. “As of next month, it will change and this to eliminate these obsolete rules, the FCC will go directly to delete 40 rules or requirements, and more than 7,000 words from the code of federal regulations. A good step forward.”

“One of the very first actions I took when I became president of the FCC was to establish a new national security council within the agency,” he said. “Our construction program will guarantee that the United States extend its advance on China in the race for critical technologies. Whether 5G, 6G or AI, we will do so by ensuring that American companies and the standards they establish continue to be the Order for companies around the world.”
