Los Angeles and several surrounding cities cancel – or postpone – the celebrations of July 4 in response to increased activity of federal immigration officials in the region.

THE County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation has postponed a series of summer films and concerts, while canceling the celebration of the East Los Angeles Rock’N of this year “out of caution and in response to a recent activity of application of ice”.

One of the greatest events of July 4 in the city which attracted thousands of people in 2024, the summer party of Gloria Molina Grand Park, was indefinitely postponed due to “the current circumstances having an impact on the region”.

In Huntington Park, the cancellation goes beyond the July 4 holidays and includes a 30-day break on “certain public summer events”, according to a press release published by the City.

“The reports of undeveloped vehicles and unidentified federal agents have created a generalized analysis, especially among immigrant and mixed families,” according to the Huntington Park press release. “Many residents have expressed fear and uncertainty, leading them to stay inside, abstain from work and withdraw from daily public life. Our priority is and will continue to be the security and peace of mind of our community.”
