Defense secretary, Pete Hegseth approved the release of 150 California National Guard troops from a federal security mission in Los Angeles, releasing them for a forest service when the state is entering the cutting edge of fire.
The decision came to the recommendation of General Gregory Guillot, commander of US Northern Command, who oversees the mission.
In a press release provided to Fox News, a USNORTHCOM spokesman said: “The working group 51 will today publish around 150 members of the California National Guard of the Federal Protective Mission”, adding that the force remains “of appropriate origin”.

Despite the debate on the scope of the mission during the Los Angeles anti-glazing demonstrations, Hegseth was held behind. With 150 soldiers released, around 3,850 soldiers remain based on the 4,000 originally deployed.
“These men and women have registered to serve – not to be Trump’s political accessories,” said Newsom’s office in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. “Let some of them go back to fight fires is a step in the right direction, but thousands of soldiers are still blocked from their real work as police, paramedical paramedics, summer teachers and civil servants. It is time to send them back to them.”
