Teaching children the importance of environmentalism is crucial in a world where environmental disasters are a common phenomenon. Children are not only those who end up with our planet when older generations have disappeared; They will also be faced with the intimidating task of trying to solve the myriads of environmental problems that we have caused. Of course, this does not want to suggest that many people have not done the job for decades, but this is a problem that will not have immediate solutions.
That said, any children’s book on environmentalism must be information and hope in equal parts. They don’t just need to know the scope of the problem: they should also learn to go ahead, even by facing everything that has already been lost. And they should also know the wonder and the fantasy that still exist in nature, even in something as banal as a garden of fruit and vegetables, or a bunch of compost.
Information, hope and wonder are three things that these nine books have to the shovel: from a book of images on deforestation to an intermediate level novel on a girl who fights to preserve the bayou after an oil leak, these books will inspire your aspiring environment to love nature and defend it.
